When you feel the Lawyer or Advocate or Attorney hired by you is not adequately representing your interest or not providing proper services for which he/she was hired, the following are the steps you can take to help you determine whether or not this is the best Lawyer for you.

1.   Before you avail required services, keep all your records documented and in proper order.

2.   Make short notes of your documents and issues for which you require legal solution.

3.   Keep track of the events happening in respect of your issues or case matter.

4.   Talk to more than one Attorney or Lawyer before deciding whom to hire, even if you feel great about the first attorney with whom you speak.

5.   Make notes of when phone calls are made to the Attorney or Lawyer and keep track of how long it takes for the Lawyer to return your phone calls.

6.   Make list of all questions you have before talking to a Lawyer.

7.   After identifying suitable Lawyers, narrow your list down to your top three. Then, set up meeting or interviews with each to gauge your comfort level with them on personal and professional level. Make notes of the answers, solutions and advises made by the Lawyers.

8.   The Lawyer or Attorney who communicates by written document (email, letter, postcard etc.) at each hearing dates or stages of your case or matter is best when compared to the oral communications.

9.   If the calls are not returned timely or if emails are not responded timely address this concerns by writing mail.

10.    Whenever any red flags (problem or danger) are noticed, always address this in writing (through email or letter) and provide the concerned Lawyer a time frame to respond.

11.    Obtain clear statement with regard to the profession fee charged by the lawyer or attorney for your matter.
